Their work reveals frameworks and strategies to address the disproportionate impacts of climate change and environmental pollution on communities of color and low-income earners. Students in the Environmental & Climate Justice course* will facilitate the conversations.
Truck traffic is a major source of pollution, leading to serious health problems for those who breathe it in. Communities situated near industrial corridors and major highways face a significantly higher risk of exposure to diesel pollution. But just how many trucks are on our streets? In 2023, the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO) and the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) set out to answer that question by deploying truck counting cameras at 35 locations across Chicagoland. Join us as Carolina Macias (LVEJO), Melanie Minuche (LVEJO), and Paulina Vaca (CNT) share some of the data collected and its impact on communities.
