Humanities Action Lab Hosts 2023 National Convening: “Communities Joining Forces to Address Climate Crisis”

Over 30 organizers, scholars, and students from ten communities across the country at the forefront of the climate crisis came together at Rutgers University-Newark to exchange experience and design collective action. Focusing on the role of storysharing in climate justice, participants explored Newark and learned from Newark organizers, exchanged local strategies, and designed collective actions for climate justice.

Participants hailing from diverse regions, ranging from Merced, California, to Magaguez, Puerto Rico, converged in Newark to exchange stories and strategies while establishing connections with their peers nationwide. The event aimed to foster collaboration and the sharing of knowledge to use storysharing for climate justice.

​The program included discussions on designing a trans-local campus, where students, scholars, and organizers from across the country can learn from and support each other. Additionally, participants engaged in the development of a collective public memory project that interconnects their stories, fostering a sense of collective action and solidarity.

This National Convening served as a vital platform for those on the front lines of the climate crisis to collaborate, learn from each other’s experiences, and work together to create a more sustainable future. It was a dynamic and insightful gathering of passionate individuals committed to climate justice.
